Spark gap machine, what does that even mean? This is a question I asked when I was looking to purchase my first PEMF system. So I want to share with you this look into what a spark gap machine is.
Pulse PEMF mechanical machines utilize spark gaps to discharge the energy in each pulse. This tried-and-true platform has been the predominant technology used in low-to-high-intensity PEMF for years. Depending on the distance between the tungsten rods, enough voltage will release electrons that arc like lightning from the tip of one rod to the other, conducting electromagnetic energy through the accessory. The spark itself remains safe inside the machine, while the user experiences a pulsing sensation determined by both the position of the dial (the distance between the rods) and the chosen accessory.
Over time, the rods naturally wear down, resulting in additional rotations of the dial and eventually making it more difficult to rotate, indicating that it’s time for cleaning and maintenance. These are normal characteristics of a spark gap being used over time.
I hope that this gives you a little bit better working knowledge of what a spark gap is.
